Hey, have you heard of the Staedtler Pigment Brush Pen, the brush pen that doesn’t rub off and smudge? It’s new, so it’s not surprising if you haven’t heard anything yet, but I really like it. In short, you can say that it deserves its place in my shop because of three really nice things. Pigment Brush Pen
You have no idea how good this is. Let me explain:
Waterproof
Why does it matter if the color is water-soluble or waterproof, you ask? Well, if you’re working with more than one color of your regular, water-soluble pencils, whether you’re shading or otherwise having the colors close together, they’re going to smear on each other. The light gray shadow turns dark gray because of the black lettering, and the pink flower turns grayish from a black outline, so annoying. But with Staedtler Brush Pen you don’t have to worry about that. As soon as the paint dries, you can draw with another one right over it without it rubbing off. One small step for mankind, but one giant leap for lettering mankind. (In the video above, I’m writing on coated paper, where it does very well, just keep in mind that it has a slightly longer drying time).
The fact that it is waterproof means that it dries quickly, does not bleed, is permanent and can be used on many different types of surfaces. The colors will be rich and lightfast compared to water-soluble pencils, and the water-based(!) paint is odorless. Good shit, simply put!
The quick-drying ink should make any left-hander happy, if nothing else.
(And hey, you can use a water-soluble pen to shade your Pigment Brush Pen letters, the color won’t smear off anyway. And you can still blend colors on the Pigment Brush Pen when wet, tip to tip, you know. Don’t let it swap pen fluids with water-soluble pens though).
The tip
I think the Stadtler Brush Pen counts as a medium-sized tip, but it is very different from, for example, the Karin Brushmarker PRO, because it is much narrower. But thanks to its length, it can still make really wide lines if you press it down hard against the paper. However, it is easier to make slightly narrower lines with it than with a Karin, due to the shape of the tip. It “folds” a little easily if you have a heavy hand, but it corrects itself if you turn the pen next time you write. For such a slim and elegant pen, the nib is remarkably firm and flexible, not at all as soft as it looks and it holds its shape really well. It’s really fun to write with!
60 colors
The Staedtler Pigment Brush is now available in 60 colors and I have them all at home. It’s relatively affordable too, which means you can mix a lovely bag of candy with all your favorite colors. As I said, you can mix the colors tip to tip, and you can also create completely new colors by layering the same or different colors. The more layers, the more saturated and intense the color. The creative possibilities are endless!
I’m sorry, what did you say? Do you need another argument? Okay, okay, okay. The shaft is made from 97% recycled plastic. Not bad, Staedtler. So I guess the question is: What colors should come to your house?
